Arrivederci Italia!

Again I woke up at 0-dark hundred to take my morning photos without the crowds, but was unsuccessful in getting any photos to boast about. I went back to our room and expected to just relax and take in the whole day as planned but, this was our last day in Venice or as the Italians say “Venezia”. Steve could not let the day waste away without some type of adventure. So we had a quick breakfast and headed off on the vaporetto for Murano!
Early morning - Doges Palace San Marco

Bridge of Sighs

Murano - rainy but beautiful

Glass shop - Murano
Did I forget to mention that it was raining? I guess I have to say something about the rain in Venice. Walking in the rain anywhere can be pretty difficult to avoid puddles but in here you might as well grow webbed feet and start quacking like a duck. I stepped in so many puddles I just stopped looking down and started to be one with the water. Quack! We didn’t let this stop us and apparently all the visitors didn’t either. We had to watch our step and avoid umbrellas too!

We got to Murano and joined all the window shoppers - the glass there is beautiful but I enjoyed the chandeliers the most. They were all incredible and costly! I was happy I didn’t have to be tempted by these treasures. We ducked into a wonderful restaurant and had a superb meal; Steve had the grilled sardines and I had the calamari lunch. Yum!

After lunch we hopped on the vaporetto and took the long route all the way around Venice.  Got off at the train station and went shopping. I bought a couple of items for the cruise we will be starting tomorrow and we headed to the hotel. When we got back we decided to take a nap, Sweet Bliss!!
When we woke we were surprised to find that the rain had stopped and more surprised that we were both hungry (not!). We ended up at the Piazza San Marco finally and found a wonderful place for a light dinner al fresco. The restaurants in the St. Mark’s had a small band playing and we had reached nirvana! Sipping cocktails and just taking the true meaning of what living in Venice could be. Bellissimo!
Last night in Venice - cocktails and music at San Marco

Tomorrow is our farewell to Venice when we board the Costa Magica, where we will be spending 7 full days visiting one more city in Italia, five cities in Greece and one in Croatia. So until I am able to write to you again. Bon voyage!

  1. ...and the "Foodie Report": grilled sardines were excellent part of lunch at Murano, and 'lobsta' finger sandwiches (It really was called lobsta .. like with a Boston accent... on the menu) in the evening - also the most expensive martinis I've had - about $25 each...but Irene's company and the music of the night was worth it!
